History : Hall Of Fame : J.R.R. Tolkien.

Tolkien is the author of many books including the Lord of the Rings. Now a much acclaimed film and voted the book of the century. Tolkien was also a professor at Leeds and Oxford Universities.

Before he began his academic and literary career he served with the Lancashire Fusiliers during World War I. He joined the LF's on the 15th July 1915 in the service, 13 and finally the 11th Battalion. During the war, he lost a close school friend, Geoffrey Bach Smith who also served with the Lancashire Fusiliers.

The museum collection at present does not have any artifacts relating to J.R.R Tolkien or G.B. Smith and their experiences with the Lancashire Fusiliers. The museum would be very interested in any potential donations to the collection of any appropriate material.
